Regrets - I've Had A Few

When my daughter grows up, I want her to be very much like Rowena--sans Aussie dialect, and perhaps with slightly less dangerous shoes.

So when she tagged me with this regrets thingy, I was touched--and a bit nonplussed. The blog I post on primarily--Burned Out Paranoid Democrat--was not the forum for this sort of exercise. Especially since it's not my blog--it's Phil's. So I started my own.

Tadaa.

Disclaimer: Some of this post has been lifted part and parcel from comments I made on Ro's blog.

1) I regret not kissing Mary Beth those nights we went rollerskating in the 9th grade. I was so afraid that I wouldn't be a good kisser, I didn't do it until I was in college. Made the senior prom a bit awkward.

2) I regret taking business typing my senior year in High School. In my defense, it wasn't my decision. I wanted to take a course called 'Personal Typing' instead. That was a one-semester course, compared to the two semester business typing course, but my mother insisted. I ended up learning such useful life skills such as how to do a half-backspace insertion on a manual typewriter, instead of having a 'study hall' period where I could have hung out in the cafeteria playing euchre with my buds.

2a) I regret telling my mother that I wanted to have a study hall period where I could hang out in the cafeteria playing euchre with my buds my senior year in High School.

3) I regret not flossing when I was younger. Root canals suck.

4) I regret switching from third base to catcher. I couldn't call a game to save my life, and I developed bad throwing habits that ruined my arm.

5) I regret everything that happened the night of Old Mister Vodka. I also regret the day after.

If this seems like a fairly lightweight list, that focuses primarily on most inconsequential things that happened twenty to thirty years ago, there's a reason for that:

I just don't have that many regrets.

This is not to say that some seriously bad shit hasn't happened to me. I've had my share of fecalized fans, and then some. Much of it self-inflicted.

But if it wasn't for the bad stuff, I wouldn't be where I am today.

And I'm kinda glad for that.

For example: how can I say I regret my marriage when in the end, I have children whom I adore and can't imagine being without?

So, in the end, I guess I only have one true regret:

6) I regret that I didn't stop regretting sooner.

For what it's worth, I tag Lily, Jessica, Colleen, and Daniel to continue this thread.

Hey

Sometimes a pirate needs to go apolitical.

This is where I'll do it.
